3 Tips for affiliate marketing success

affiliate marketing for beginnersThis is not all the tips, but this is a good start. Something that resonated with me over the years is that affiliate/online marketing is a business and it needs to be operated as such. What holds true in the offline world, holds true in the online world. So, run your business as a business and not some hobby.

Be serious.

Approach affiliate marketing seriously, as if it were a job or a new profession. You will never make it, as an affiliate marketer, by treating this like a hobby. As a profession I’m referring to, you spend time working at your business daily. It doesn’t need to become an 8 hour a day venture but dedicating 2 hrs/day is a great place to start. Consistency is the key. By being consistent you will gain traction, build confidence, and what you are working on remains fresh in your mind.

Track your results.

If you are not tracking results, you have no basis of comparison. Not being able to compare results you will never know if what you are doing is working or not. A bad program with results is better than going it alone, meaning no comparative data, with a good plan. Being able to analyze results allows you to make the necessary adjustments to your bottom line. For example, with email marketing. knowing data such as your open rates and click thru rates and how they compare to industry averages. Or with paid ads, what is your cost/lead versus number of sales being generated. Let’s say, your current ad spend is $3/lead and your product is $3. In this scenario, you are breaking even. After making some adjustments, because you are tracking results, you bring that lead acquisition cost down to a $1. Now, you’re generating a $2 profit from the same product.

Learn to be comfortable being uncomfortable.

I don’t care how much experience you have you will always be confronted with obstacles. The obstacles could be anything from writing headlines that get opened to a piece of software that would streamline your daily tasks, but it’s not functioning the way it is intended. Remember, as in life, you are going to have good days and some not so good days. This is why having a daily action plan will keep you focused on the task at hand and not be overly concerned with the end goal.
